Community Chat events to stimulate community spirit

Residents are invited to a new event designed to relight the spark of community spirit back into Castle Vale. Locals will have a chance to find out more about the positive initiatives in the area, meet neighbours, and suggest improvements to Castle Vale.

The first Community Chat evening will kick off a series of quarterly community-led events held across different venues, and is a result of a survey which revealed that many residents were unaware of the fantastic local initiatives being undertaken by a range of organisations.

Secondary school Greenwood Academy will host the first event on Thursday 11th April from 5pm – 7pm.

Teaching staff will introduce Promising Futures, a charity which supports young people in Castle Vale to achieve amazing things. Young Leaders from Promising Futures will be helping to host the evening and revealing opportunities for youth in the area. Residents will also be able to see the new school first hand.

Guest speakers will reveal a variety of initiatives that residents can benefit from and get involved with across the estate. Members of West Midlands Police, Compass Support, the charitable arm of The Pioneer Group,  Castle Vale Stadium, Switch Radio, debt and benefits advice provider Spitfire Services, and the Neighbourhood Partnership Board will be available to speak to during the evening.

Switch Radio will provide music and a fun Easter Egg hunt run by the Youth Team from Compass Support will keep children busy.

Event organisers will be encouraging residents to suggest ways to improve the area and post ideas on a specially set up consultation wall.

Trevor Evans, Arts, Community and Events Manager at Greenwood Academy commented:

We are delighted to be holding the first Community Chat at Greenwood Academy. We are a hub for all sorts of activity beyond the school day and this event will go hand in hand in shaping the offer across the whole of Castle Vale.

Becki Winkless, Inclusion and Insight Officer at Castle Vale Community Housing, added:

We want to engage with everyone in the community, and hear what the residents want us to improve. We’re looking forward to sharing ideas and encouraging everyone to work with us to create a better Castle Vale.

Event details: Thursday 11 April, from 5 – 7 pm, at Greenwood Academy, Farnbourugh Road, Castle Vale, B35
